72~D Rotten Meat

More times then not, I walk into a Unit and it’s been completely turned upside down! 72~D was no different on this day. 

I slowly open the door, already beginning to smell something so strong I could feel it! I walk into and I can either go left to the kitchen and bathroom or right into the bedroom. I went right , into the bedroom and there is garbage covering the entirety of the room. On the bed and under both the queen bed and the twin bed next to it. The blankets were all balled up in the corner, food wrappers and containers from several fast food meals in the drawers on the table and desk. Empty shoeboxes , clothing bags and tags lay right where they were dropped. Used Napkins just tossed to the floor.  I paper bag with clothes smashed in it, old shoes left wherever they were taken off. 

Food spilled on all the furniture and a layer of sticky something coats the floor between the beds. 

Then I turned around to go into the kitchen and bathroom area , as I neared the doorway the smell had gotten so intense it hurt my feelings. Pots, pans, plates, cups, bowls , silverware , etc just spread out everywhere with food left in each dish with a layer of mold and white fur! The sink had food rotting in both drains . Eggshells all in the sink. Good all over the floor and around the garbage can. Cigarette ashes on the kitchen table and kitchen chairs.

Then in the bathroom there was no water in the toilet bowl but tons of brown splatter all in an around the toilet with paper towels hanging off the toilet seat and surrounding the toilet base that had obviously gotten wet from toilet water overflowing , now it’s stained with yellow and completely dry. 

I was certain the smell was coming from the food and bathroom. But I couldn’t stomach it , I kept running out into the hallway trying to get fresh air . So it would be time consuming to clean it while running back and forth out of the unit. 

Thank goodness for my friend Feather and her daughter Yasmine. 

 Feather went straight to the kitchen and started to tackle it. When we realized the outlets were not working not any of them. So I flipped the switch in the breaker box and there was power. And there was also the realization of what the smell actually was. Because the outlets were not receiving power the refrigerator was not keeping cool. So all this meat that was in the freezer thawed and bled all over the inside and was just spoiling. And in the fridge was more food that had been rotting. 

Feather cleaned out the refrigerator entirely and washed all the dishes . While Yasmine helped me empty the garbage from the unit. Thank goodness because after 6, 30 gallon trash bags were filled with all the garbage from the bedroom , we had to wipe everything down and Yasmine cleaned the bathroom while I put the bedroom back together and Feather finished the kitchen . 

 

After 3 Hours…of smelling rotting meat and cleaning a unit that was lived in for a couple months, with only one guest staying. We were able to Brooke It Up!
